Thief of Time

2025

Thief of Time reimagines an ancient water clock, the clepsydra, as a shared meditation on the passage of time and our relationship with time's flow. Two glass vessels: one suspended above, steadily releasing water; the other below, containing the flow of water, measuring its passage. This flow marks the duration of a participant’s presence.

When exhibited, the audience is invited to interact with the piece: to lift the water from the lower vessel, time once belonging to someone else, and return it to the upper one.

This simple act becomes a quiet theft. One person's spent time becomes the raw material for another's. Time, once passed, is repurposed. In this way, Thief of Time becomes a collective act of remembrance and an invitation to dwell in the present, not as a fixed point, but as a current carried by many hands.

Each of these interactions is photographed, with only the participant’s hands visible. These anonymous images form a growing archive throughout the gallery, a record of stolen time, reclaimed time. The photographs represent a linear temporal narrative, while the act of using and reusing time through the clepsydra creates a temporal cycle.

In this photograph, the work can be seen on display as part of the 3/4 Humours exhibition, 2025, at Broadway Gallery, Nottingham.

Existence In A Non-Dead World

2025

'Existence In A Non-Dead World' is a visual representation of pandispositionalism, a theory within philosophy which holds that all natural properties are powerful, and are disposed towards bringing about some change in the world.

This work expresses a view of reality where nothing is passive, where the world is not a dead world of static objects. Everything that exists is, in some sense, 'alive' with potential and power, shaping what things are and what they can become.

In this photograph, the work can be seen on display as part of the Perennial exhibition, 2025, at Haarlem Art Space, Wirksworth.

Fluxus Temporis

2022

Langsdale's first solo piece of art, this film marks a significant development of her practice.

Fluxus Temporis investigates the inexorability of time's passage and the futility of our tenacious attempts to interrupt, divert, or stem the flow of time. The work emphasises the constant, unyielding movement of time that transcends human control. It challenges the viewer to confront the inevitability of change, encouraging us to reflect on how we experience, resist, and ultimately surrender to the flow of time.
